The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, has challenged Government and private agencies in the country to be disability-friendly, to give the physically challenged persons in our midst a sense of belonging, stating that there is always ability in disability.

The Vice-Chancellor disclosed this during the formal presentation of letter of employment to a blind lady, Ngozi Chinyere Madu, as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Education of the University. The blind lady who hails from Avor Ntigha, in Isiala Ngwa North, LGA of Abia State has a Master of Education degree (M.Ed) in Guidance and Counselling.

He congratulated her for her determination and tenacity in not allowing her disability to hinder her development in life and challenged other physically challenged persons to emulate her. He disclosed that Abia State University will continue to provide conducive environment for the physically challenged persons to develop their God-given potentials in their various vocations and careers.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that as a role model, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Nkechi Ikpeazu, should be commended for her untiring efforts and philanthropy to the less priviledged, widows, motherless and physically challenged persons through her pet project, the Vicar Hope Foundation and challenged other corporate bodies and well to do persons to emulate her kind gesture for a better society.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the letter of employment to Ngozi Chinyere Madu by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, on behalf of the University Management.
