Amidst the increasing wave by students and their colleagues to relish in propagating negative news and outright falsehood against the Institution that impacts quality knowledge to them, five (5) graduates of the University from different department, who distinguished themselves, as part of the one hundred and ten (110) 2018/2019 Presidential  NYSC award recipients, has presented their awards to the Vice Chancellor as a show of gratitude to the Institution that trained them.
In an emotional laden speech, the Vice Chancellor, Distinguished Professor O. M Ogbulu, congratulated the awardees on behalf of Management and Staff for making the University proud and projecting the true spirit of excellence and service of ABSU to the larger society.
He pointed out that there is great benefit in being disciplined, hardworking, committed and obedient, as exemplified by the awardees, who he says, have become true ambassadors of the University, that will be sought after wherever they go. He stated further that this is just the beginning of their successes in life.
In their separate speeches, each of the awardees recounted their experiences, motivation, and the projects they executed, in their respective places of primary assignments, that earned their nominations for the Presidential awards in different states they served.
They were full of gratitude to their various departments, lecturers and the  University as a whole for training them to be worthy in learning and character, especially for helping them imbibe the spirit of selfless service to humanity. 
In a vote of thanks, the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr Levi Nwokocha, attributed the success of the awardees to diligence and excellent spirit, which they received as students of the University, and thanked the Vice Chancellor, management, and all their teachers who were part of moulding them at different stages of their academic pursuit in the University.
It will be noted that the overall best award among the 110 awardees was won by Anyaogu Onyeyirichi Rejoice of Department of marketing of the Abia State University, while others are-Iwuchukwu Daniel Chimankpam- Architecture-Nwankpa Solomon Beauty – Marketing- Aham Maureen Chikanma- Education/ Chemistry- Onyeachu Chimnacherem -Optometry
The awards attract automatic employment in the Federal civil service, and Federal Government Scholarship for further studies to PhD level.
The management, the HOd’s of the awardees, Dean, Student Affairs, ICS Director, were present to celebrate these great ambassadors of ABSU, and of course the awardees never missed that opportunity to have  the Vice Chancellor’s handshake.
