The newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Abia State University(ABSU) Distinguished Professor O. M Ogbulu has expressed his appreciation to the Governor and Visitor to the University, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, PhD, for his appointment as the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University, following recommendations of the Governing Council and the Vice Chancellorship Screening / Selection Committee.
Professor Ogbulu, who disclosed this, during a reception organized by the University Community in his honor at the University Auditorium, explained that his emergence as the 8th Substantive Vice Chancellor of the University was divine and timely, hence the seamless and smooth transition from the past administration to the present, and thanked the Governing Council for a thorough and fair interview and screening process, as well as his fellow contestants for their spirit of sportsmanship.
He pointed out, that the vision of his administration will be anchored on the tripod of ” Let the change continue” as a way to carry on with the positive and visible change mantra of his predecessor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, in every area, including, Staff and Students welfare, Expansion of Academic activities, ICT revolution, Security, Infrastructural development an so on, promising to improve on all these,  to take ABSU to another level of glory. 
He appealed to the various staff unions of the University like Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU- ABSU), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), None Academic Staff Union (NASU), and the None Academic Technicians (NAT) to suspend the ongoing strike so that the Students could return to School, while the administration address the issues of salary arrears and other demands of the unions.
Also speaking, the Chairman on the occasion,  and Dean, School of Postgraduate studies, Professor Emma Ngumoha,congratulated the new Vice Chancellor for his deserved appointment and promised him the support of all staff to move the University to greater height, and prayed for more grace and strenght to the Vice Chancellor and his administration.
Earlier in a short exhortation, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese, Isukwuato, Rt. Rev. Manases Okere, admonished the new Vice Chancellor, to anchor all his actions on decisions on the word of God, and that way, he will enjoy good success.
A major highlight of the event, was the announcement of scholarship award up to secondary School level by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogbulu, to a pupil of ABSU nursery Staff School, Master Joshua Maduabuchi,  who is currently in Nursery 3, for his exceptional warm reception and prayers, when he arrived to assume duties in his office.
The event was attended by staff and Students of the University, Committe of friends, traditional groups, the clergy, and relatives of the Vice Chancellor.
