ABSU PROJECTS: PROFESSOR E. UCHE IKONNE’S MONUMENTAL LEGACIES

On assumption of Office, 1st December, 2015 as the 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, *Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne*, paid official visits to the Chief Executive Officers of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Central Bank of Nigeria and Hon. Minister, Federal Ministry of Education, Abuja, among others, to solicit support and explore areas of mutual cooperation in the Infrastructural development of the University.

These visits, with the support of the Governor and Visitor to the University, *Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D* and the University Governing Council, ably led by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, *His Excellency, Senator Adolf Wabara*, have produced tremendous achievements by attracting the following projects:

🔸 Renovation of the Senate Building
– Office complex of the Vice-Chancellor, Senate, Council and Deputy Vice-Chancellors.

🔸 Renovation of Ebenezer Lodge
– Official residence of the Vice-Chancellor.

🔸 Connection of the University to the National grid after 28years of the location to Uturu campus.

🔸 Commencement of work at the permanent site of the Faculty of Engineering, Aba.

🔸 Relocation and tremendous work at the Faculty of Law, Umuahia.

🔸 New Department of Optometry Office complex.

🔸 Completion of 300- bed capacity Students hostels at Uturu and Umuahia location.

🔸 Ongoing construction of Academic Staff Office complex, Uturu.

🔸 Ongoing construction of Department of Anatomy and Physiology Office complex, Uturu.

🔸 Ongoing construction of Faculty of Humanities Office complex, Uturu.

🔸 Ongoing construction of the Postgraduate hostel, Uturu by Zespronent ABSU Alumni Association.

🔸 Ongoing construction of 40-bed capacity ABSU Alumni Guest House, Uturu.

🔸 Construction and Commissioning of ABSU Medical Alumni Recreation complex at ABSUTH.

🔸 Completion and Commissioning of Ultra-modern Lecture Theatre complex, Uturu.

🔸 Ongoing NDDC Students’ hostel complex, Uturu.

🔸 Total renovation of the University Library, Uturu.

🔸 Refurbishment and remodeling of the University Library seat out, Uturu.

🔸 Ongoing construction of a 4-bedroom capacity Guest House, courtesy of the Governor and Visitor to the University, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

🔸 Construction of the Students Union Government (SUG) Secretariat complex, courtesy of the Governor and Visitor to the University.

🔸 Completion and Commissioning of e-Library complex at Umuahia Location of the University.

🔸 Purchase of fleet of Vehicles, including Buses, Ambulance.

🔸 Construction and equipping of State-of-the-Art Science Laboratories, Engineering Workshop, Material Laboratory for the Faculty of Environmental Studies, Mass Communication Lab, Public Health Lab, Quantity surveying Lab and establishment of Work Stations in the various Departments and Faculties.

🔸 Installation of Digital equipment donated by Nigeria Communications Commission.

🔸 Improvement in the book holding capacity of the University Library, from 2,000 volumes to over 70,000 volumes.

🔸 Renovation of Students Emergency hostels, including Sam Mbakwe and ALGON hostels.

🔸 Reactivation of Walkway lights for improved security in the University.

🔸 Commencement of work at the new ASUU Secretariat complex, Uturu.

🔸 Establishment and equipping of State-of-the-Art Pathology Laboratory complex, housing Microbiology, Haematology and Pharmacology, Aba.

🔸 Renovation of ABSUTH building, Aba

🔸 Construction of Medical Students hostel, Aba

🔸 Procurement and installment of brand new generating sets, Aba. etc.
