VICE-CHANCELLOR COMMENDS AGRICULTURAL POLICY OF THE STATE GOVERNMENT,

The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, has commended the Governor, Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D for prioritizing Agriculture in the state and for making it one of the pillars of his Administration.
The Vice-Chancellor bemoaned the over dependence of the country on oil and advocated improved emphasis on Agriculture as a way of liberalizing and diversifying the economy and Improved food sufficiency in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor who disclosed this when the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor C.I Eze led other Heads of Department on a solidarity visit, pledged to assist the Faculty within the limits of available resources, in achieving its targets of becoming a reference point in Crop production, Fisheries, Poultry, Snail rearing and other forms of Agriculture.
He commended the Dean and the Faculty members for their Programme of turning around the fortunes of the Faculty and thanked them for being the first Faculty to formally appreciate the University Administration for supporting them during the recent NUC Accreditation exercise. He encouraged them to ensure the actualization of “ABSU Garri” this year.
Earlier in his Address, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture described the Vice-Chancellor as “Agric Friendly” and commended him for his uncommon interest and love for the Faculty through provision of world-class scientific equipment, infrastructure, employment of seasoned academics and funding.
They also thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne for the huge investment of the University Management in ensuring full accreditation of various Programmes in the Faculty and assured sustenance of ABSU farm and improved harvest this year.
They solicited the approval of the Vice-Chancellor in the repair of their tractors and to partner other Agencies for the growth and development of the Faculty and reaffirmed their loyalty and implicit  confidence in the University Administration ably led by the visionary Vice-Chancellor Professor E. Uche Ikonne.
