Prior to the assumption of Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne as the 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University in 2015, the Directorate of Research and Publications merely existed, as there were hardly activities taking place there. Courtesy of the visionary and ebullient leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and appointment of a versatile Academic Prof V.O Nwaugo as Director, the University is now a beehive of research activities.
The place of research in the life and fame of any University cannot be over emphasized, as Universities are recognized worldwide by its academic researches, publications of her staff, students and affliates.
The story change in ABSU Research Activities include:🔸 Sponsorship of 38 Research topics in the University by TETFund to the tune of 2million naira each.
🔸 Sponsorship of another 43 Research topics in the University by TETFund, unprecedented in the University and one of the highest number of sponsorship by TETfund in any University in Nigeria.
🔸 Emergence of ABSU as one of the 39 winners of the National Based Research Fund, worth Millions of Naira, out of over 900 proposals submitted to TETFund.
🔸 Setting up of work-stations in almost all Departments in the University.
🔸 Setting up of several Research teams led by Senior Academics in the University.
🔸 Emergence of ABSU as a winner of the 2019 National Based Research Fund worth Millions of Naira.
🔸 Increae in the delivery of Inaugural Lectures from 19th in 2015 to 55th in March, 2020. It is no longer news that Professors now struggle for dates for their Inaugural Lectures.
🔸 Giving Research its pride of place in the University.
Having established itself as a very research conscious University in Nigeria, ABSU is now focused on the global stage.
