ACCOLADES AS PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI INAUGURATE PROFESSOR IKONNE ODORBN BOARD CHAIRMAN

The President,Muhammadu Buhari has inaugurated the Ukwa-Ngwa born optometrist and Vice-Chancellor Abia State University, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, Chairman, Optometrist and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria.

The President who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health, Mr Abdullahi Mashi, urged all stakeholder’s incumbent in the health sector to collaborate towards an efficient and effective service delivery in the sector.

As Chairman and Members of the Governing Board, you are expected to set standards of discipline and practice, training and acquisition of professional skills, which are the core elements required in the health sector
According to him,” the inauguration of the Governing Board is a move by the Federal Government towards strengthening the health sector in line with the focus and direction of this administration, noting that the board would address the many challenges confronting the health sector”.

Moreso,” the inauguration will reawaken your consciousness towards maintaining global best practices for effective and efficient service delivery in the health sector that will galvanize the sector towards a paradigm shift in health service delivery”.

” Your appointment by Mr President should be seen as an opportunity to make useful and selfless contributions towards uplifting the regulation of Health Professionals in Nigeria,” he said.

Responding, the Board Chairman who doubles as Vice-Chancellor Abia State University, expressed his profound gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for giving him the privilege, assuring the board as well as Nigerians and the world at large, that he shall do the needful to justify the confidence reposed in him.

More importantly, Professor Ikonne pledged to run a people oriented administration, as he deploys his experience and network built over the years within and outside the profession to positively change the fortunes of the board.

The event was attended by eminent Nigerians, including members of the Hospital Services, Dr Joseph, and other prominent stakeholders in the health sector.
