The Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne has applauded the synergy and cordial relationship between the Medical Laboratory science council of Nigeria (MLSCN) and Abia State University, which facilitated the uninterrupted yearly induction of Medical Laboratory graduates of the institution.
Professor Ikonne who was speaking during the 3rd induction/oath taking ceremony of 77 (Seventy Seven) 2017/2018 session graduands of the Abia State University, explained that all professional courses of the University has full accreditation, both regulatory bodies and the National Universities Commission (NUC), and the regular inductions for these programs, is an indication that the system is working with the necessary technical, human, and material resources, in place in these disciplines.
The Vice Chancellor expressed joy that the University, through the induction of the new graduates, has added more quality manpower to the health care delivery system in the country, and congratulated the graduands, their parents, Lecturers, and all those who saw to the successful completion of their study in the University.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Professor L.N Chigbu, while thanking the Vice Chancellor, and Management, and others for their tremendous support, congratulated the graduands for having successfully acquired liberal, independent, and analytical minds essential for the Professional practice, and advised they pursue excellence and service as they practice.
Also speaking, the Provost, college of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor C, Aluka, described the day as a happy and serious day, congratulating the graduands and their parents for achieving such academic success, and reminded the graduands that the oath of service they took, places a demand on them for dedicated and faithful service in their professional calling, praying for Gods guidance as they practice.
In her valedictory speech, the best all round Medical Laboratory Science graduating student for 2017/2018, Okezie Priscillia Ozioma, thanked the Vice Chancellor, University Management, the Lecturers, Parents/Guardians, for their sacrifice and opportunity given them to excel in their chosen field, admonishing her colleagues to uphold the values they have imbibed in the University wherever they found themselves.
Highpoint of the event were a lecture on the topic, “Strategies for effective and Sustainable Biorisk Management in Nigeria”, delivered by Professor Confidence Kinikanwo Nwachukwu, Professor of Applied Biology, Rivers State University, Portharcourt, administration of oath on the inductees by the Registrar, Medical laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), Sir Tosan Erhabor, represented by Mrs Ede Comfort, as well as the presentation of merit awards to the best graduating Student and others.
