The Abia State University (ABSU), have joined the league of G13 Universities in Nigeria,that are approved and selected by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to admit foreign students for different academic programs.
In his remarks, during the 234th Regular Senate meeting of the Abia State University, the Vice Chancellor, Professor. E Uche Ikonne, explained that the University was selected among other first generation Universities in Nigeria, based on visible advancement in the areas of ICT development, solid academic content, research, infrastructure and other achievements which had made the institution a global brand, pointing out that ABSU, has the capacity to excel in any area.
Earlier, the Director of Academic planning, Professor Gazie Okpara, who broke the cheering news in his presentation to Senate members on “The Evolving Trends in Universities Ranking”, explained that the new NUC ranking is all encompassing covering every area in a University Administration, challenging all to acquaint themselves with the new grading system, and enhance their capacities through ICT, in order to continually improve the ranking of the University.
As part of his commitment to the capacity development of members of Senate, the Vice Chancellor Professor E. Uche Ikonne, distributed a two-in one, computer tablets to all Dean of Faculties, Head of Departments, as well as to a former Vice Chancellor, Professor Ogwo E. Ogwo, for his regularity at senate meetings, and Emeritus Professor, Frank Akpuaka
