GOVERNOR IKPEAZU INSTALLS NEW ABSU CHANCELLOR DURING HER 26TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

 

          

The Governor and visitor to the Abia State University, Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD, have installed His Royal Majesty, Begha U Tiv, Orcivirigh, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, who is also the Chairman, Benue State Council of Traditional rulers, as the Honorable Chancellor of the University.
Speaking during the 26th convocation ceremony of the University, the Governor congratulated the new chancellor on his appointment, as well as other awardees on the honor done them, stating that the Chancellor will bring his wealth of experience to bear in order to move the University to the next level.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, his management team, and heads of various Faculties, for ensuring that students graduate as at when due.
He pointed out that Abia will be the first state in Nigeria to have an economic city, which when realized, will create over 700,000 jobs, stressing that the Federal Government, has proclaimed Abia as the SME capital of the country, through the ingenuity of artisans in Aba.
Also speaking, the Chancellor, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed on him, and explained that his appointment will further strengthen the existing relationship, and open up new areas of cooperation between Abia and Benue State, and middle belt geo political zone at large.
In his remark, the Pro chancellor, His Excellency, Senator Adolphus Wabara, also congratulated the new chancellor, Professor James Ortese Iorzua, while commending the Governor for the choice, and for the unprecedented achievements in the University over the years. He pledged the commitment and support of the council to ensuring improved standard that will move the University to higher pedestal.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, in his own address, stated that the Four thousand, One hundred and Seventeen graduands have been equipped, with relevant knowledge, skills, moral conduct, and service orientation to compete in the labor market, and assured that the University will continue to pursue excellence and service as proposed by the founding fathers.
In their separate remarks after receiving honorary Doctorate degrees, the Eze Ukwu 1 of Ngwa Ukwu, His Eminence, Eze Bernard Enweremadu, and former Chief of Army staff (COAS) LT. General Azubuike Ihejirika, extolled the University for the honor done to them, maintaining, that the award, will serve as encouragement for greater service to God and humanity.
Expressing their gratitude, the best graduating student, Onyebuchi Precious, chimgozirim Uba Alilionwu, Udochukwu Ogbonna, thanked the University for laying the foundation of hard work, which produced the graduates being celebrated.
The highpoint of the 26th convocation ceremony were the conferment of first degrees, award of automatic employment to the overall best graduating student, and goodwill messages from sister Universities.
In a closing remark, the Honorable Chancellor, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, used the forum to announce the Chancellor’s awards for the best Student in Bio- Chemistry, and another for the best student in character, which will run in perpetuity, every year.
