ABSU COMMUNITY WELCOMES VC FROM HIS OVERSEA TRIP

 

In a rare show of love and goodwill, the entire Abia State University, treated the Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne to a rousing reception, from a two weeks oversea trip to United States, in furtherance of his International engagements to promote the University to the global Community.

As the Students lined up the walkways chanting praises in appreciation of the VC, the University Management and Senate were on hand at the Senate building to receive and lead the VC to the Senate chambers where other staff and students were waiting.

In a short remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor O. M Ogbulu, on behalf of management, welcomed the VC back to the University and thanked God for granting him journey mercies.
He explained that while the VC was away, the University was running smoothly, and were waiting for bring back some good news.

The Provost, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor C. Aluka, the Director, Institute of General Studies, Dr Ogbonna Onuoha, Chairman, ABSU- ASUU, Architect Orji Ejimofor, and Secretary SUG, Sochima Nwokeke, representing the Senate, the Directors, Academic Staff, the Student Union Government respectively, in their seperate remarks, welcomed the VC, and praised God for bringing him back safely.
They also thanked the organizers of the reception for putting together such an event in a short time on behalf of the University community.

Responding, the VC, Professor E. Uche Ikonne who was taken by surprise at the reception accorded him, expressed joy for the show of love by members of management and the entire University community for putting together such an event, which he described as ” a ceremonial coup”, and prayed that God will continue to reward and uphold everyone in the University with his love and tender mercies.
The Vice Chancellor equally thanked the Visitor to the University, and Executive Governor of the State, Okezie Ikpeazu, Ph.D, who granted him permission to travel with his wife, Barrister (Lady) Uzoamaka Uche Ikonne.
He reported the appreciation of the ABSU Alumni, North America branch, to the developmental strides in the University, especially in the area of ICT, infrastructure, and Academics, and announced the plan of the Alumni to set up an ICT hub in the University.
According to him, as part of this, the ABSU Alumni in North America has donated about 62 units of all in one computer to the University, for the set up of the ICT hub .
The VC explained that the University has come to a melting point, where there is no segragation between, Management, Staff, Students, and the entire University community, and called on all, to come on board to move the University forward.
