Abia State University today stood still for the Governor and Visitor to the University,Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph.D.
In what could be referred to as rendition of love,Gov. Ikpeazu’s visit to Abia State University will forever remain indelible in the minds of Staff, Students and the University Community.
Just like the biblical ‘.. _study to show thy self approved…’,_ the warm reception given to him justifies the above mentioned quote.
The Governor amidst loud ovations from staff and students,sounding obviously fulfilled upon arrival was received by our Distinguished Vice Chancellor, Prof. E Uche Ikonne. The Governor later moved to commission the:
*Students’ Union Secretariat he built for ABSU SUG,
*300 Bed Capacity Students’ Hostel,
*Material Laboratory Centre of the Faculty of Environmental Studies,
*As well as performed the ground breaking ceremony of Abia State University Guest House.
While commissioning the projects, Governor Ikpeazu applauded the University Administration, Led by Professor Uche Ikonne for re-inventing excellence in the University.
He said that his desire to build the SUG Secretariat was to create a conducive environment for the SUG leadership to discharge their duties and relate well with the school management.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne Described the Ultramodern Students’ Union Government Secretariat built by the Governor as the first of its kind since the inception of the University. He also said 300 hundred capacity hostel will provide more accommodation for students.The Material Laboratory would assist students in Environmental Studies to do their practicals, while the guests house, when realised would reduce the expenses during accreditations and other events as well as generate revenue for the university.
Contributing, the President of Students’ Union Government, Comrade Chukwunyere Onyenso extolled the Governor for all he is doing for the university including enlisting himself as an academic staff of a university (Pro-Bono)and assisting the SUG in getting her own befitting Secretariate.
