His Excellency, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Pro-chancellor Abia state University attends special university research program at Oxford..
Arriving on Monday this week, His Excellency, Senator Wabara started his program at Oxford with a visit to the Christ Church College of Oxford University. Senator Wabara was led by Prof Chris Imafidon to the cathedral of the college where they were met by the chaplain of the day who welcomed the Senator on behalf of the head of the college and Dean, Very Revd Prof Martyn Percy (45th Dean of Christ Church College, Oxford University).
Senator Wabara said “How much he enjoyed the experience at the University and learnt a lot about proven cutting-edge research grant process and procedures and is delighted to be signing an MOU with the Excellence in Education (EIE), which will open up greater opportunities for capacity building and collaborative research at Abia state University. It was also a delight to meet with the leaders of the commonwealth, who are keen to support Abia State University in research, capacity building and ICT.
Extensively discussed during the visit to Oxford University and the Commonwealth office were how Abia state University can partake in a range of technological, educational, economic and scientific activities including, but not limited to, the following: Capacity building (Training of Professors, Lecturers, Scholars, Teachers, Students, Scientists, Researchers and other professionals) in generating external income via research and consultancy. Knowledge transfer activities that will accelerate the development of Abia State University, Nigeria until Abia State University becomes the centre of academic excellence in Africa. So that Abia State University can attract research grants and funding from European, American and other international institutions such as the Commonwealth, UN, current and past partners of EIE. Women empowerment via proven and world renowned initiatives of STEM delivered by our partner institutions such as STEMette and WISE which already attract industry funding. Provision of equipment, books and resources to support research, learning and teaching and all levels from EIE’s partners such as multinational corporations and government agencies such as DIFD, USAID, Microsoft, Oracle and Salesforce. Design and develop various programmes that will extend the knowledge, skills and abilities of all levels of students. Development of the gifted and talent programmes for all levels at Abia State University Provide outreach and twinning educational programmes and intensive intellectual and vocational training leading to youth employment and empowerment. Through widening participation strategy, via post-graduate empowerment, and training to transform graduates into Entrepreneurs or Job, or Market-ready professionals .
