ABSU VISITATION PANEL BEGINS SITTING, AS VC ASSURES SUPPORT

The Abia State University Uturu (ABSU) Visitation Panel constituted by the Abia State Governor and Visitor to the University Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD to review the activities of the University from 2011-2020 among other terms of reference has commenced its sitting at the University.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the team in his office, the Vice- Chancellor Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M.Ogbulu while welcoming them expressed appreciation to the Governor and Visitor to the University Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD for assembling such highly rated professional, experienced and eminent personalities as members of the panel and assured of the maximum support of his administration to the team in order to effectively carry out their assignment.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that visitation panels are part and parcel of any University architecture and expressed optimism that the appraisal of the activities of the University by the panel will help to provide solutions to the challenges of the Institution and move it to the next level and urged them to approach the assignment with a high level of professionalism and objectivity.Earlier, the Chairman of the Visitation panel, Chief J.U.K Igwe(SAN) explained that they have been working on the reports and papers received from groups and individuals since inauguration and now ready to move to the next stage of the assignment which is the physical interaction with the various stakeholders.According to him, the exercise in line with the terms of reference will look back into history to ensure the programs of the University conforms with the Benchmark minimal academic standard (BMAS), examine the financial records of the University, State of Infrastructure, Staff welfare and development policies as well as past and present challenges of the University with a view to making implementable recommendations that will help the development of the University.

The learned silk commended the Vice-Chancellor for his achievements within a short period in office and described him as a progressive Vice-Chancellor who leads a progressive team and gave assurance that their assignment is highly technical and will be devoid of any political or selfish sentiments, but rather as stakeholders they will do their best to find ways on how the University will occupy its pride of place in the committee of Universities within and outside the shores of the country.ABSU he added has enormous resources within its Alumni groups in every part of the world and urged the administration to explore new ways of engaging the Alumni in meaningful projects in the University.

In a vote of thanks, Hon. Jude Udeachara appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his usual warm reception and hospitality which he says endears him to both staff and students and other stakeholders of the University and commended the Governor and Visitor to the University Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PHD for appointing him as the 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.Recall that in November 2020, the Governor and visitor to the University Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD constituted a visitation panel for the University with members as Chief J.U.K Igwe(SAN) Chairman, Hon. Jude Udeachara member, Sir Sam Onukwuo member, HRH Eze Love Nwogu member, Chief(Mrs.) Victoria Akanwa member, Dr Amachukwu Okezie member and Mr Okechukwu Ihedioha member.The full complement of the University Management was present during the courtesy visit and thereafter, the panel moved into the interactive session with Deans of Faculties, Unions and others.
