VICE-CHANCELLOR RESTATES READINESS FOR ABIA STATE UNIVERSITY COMBINED 27TH AND 28TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY: SET TO GRADUATE 5,712 STUDENTS

The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, on behalf Management has restated the readiness of the Abia State University for the combined 27th and 28th Convocation Ceremony on Friday 12th November 2021.
Addressing a Pre-Convocation Press briefing at the University, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the Combined Convocation will graduate a total of 5,712 students with 29 First Class in different disciplines, as well as award of honorary Doctorate degrees to following:
Barrister Allen Ifechukwu OnyemaChairman, Air Peace Ltd
Engr. Nnamdi EzeigboFounder/CEO Slot System Ltd
Dame Gladys Nne NwaforFormer National INCE Commissioner (South East Zone)
He added that there will also be Conferment of Emeritus Professors to, Professor S. O. Igwe, a Former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor G. I. Nwaka (Professor of History) and Professor A. I. Nwabughuogu – Post Humous (Former DVC – Academic and Professor of Economic History)  as a way of recognizing their immense contributions to the academic development of the University.
Professor Ogbulu further informed the press of plans and strategies to introduce more courses and academic programmes like Dentistry, Aeronautic Engineering, Hospitality Management/Tourism, Community Health, Geology etc, as a way of accommodating the increasing number of students seeking admission into the University.
He expressed gratitude to the Abia State Governor and Visitor to the University, His Excellency Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D for his untiring support to the University, and assurance of adequate security for the Convocation, and also thanked the Honourable Chancellor Professor James Ayatse Ortese, Tor Tiv and Chairman, Benue State Traditional Rulers Council, the Pro-Chancellor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara, Ph.D, for providing guidance and support at all times, as well as the Senate, Staff Unions for the confidence reposed in him which has stabilize the academic system.
The Vice-Chancellor maintained that his administration has made the issue of staff welfare a top priority resulting in promotion of Teaching and non-Teaching staff in all cadres, adding that procedures and processes in form of Committees have been put in place to ensure financial independence of the institution in the years to come.
Meanwhile the activities for the 27th and 28th Convocation Ceremony Commenced with the Pre-Convocation Press briefing, and on Thursday 11th November 2021, a Pre-Convocation Lecture on the topic: “Nigeria’s Political and Economic Future”. The Dangers We Can Avert: will hold at the University Auditorium by 11.00am.  The lecture will delivered by Hon. Chief Barrister Nnia Nwodo, Former Minister for Information and Immediate Past President. Ohaneze ndi-Igbo Worldwide. The Press Conference featured questions and answer sessions on other issues bothering on funding for the University, exceptional performance of products of Abia State University in both Internal and External examinations bodies, Alumni Contributions etc
