Senate of Abia State University at its 237th regular meeting held on Wednesday 26th June 2019, has commended the Vice Chancellor, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, on his appointment as the Chairman, Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians Registration Board of Nigeria (ODORBN), by President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Federal Ministry of Health.
In a motion raised by Professor C.N Ogbonnaya, and seconded by Professor Ogbonna Onuoha, Senate deliberated and noted with pride, the well deserved appointment of the Vice Chancellor, and thanked the President, for recognizing the outstanding performance and contributions of Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, in the development of the Optometry profession and education in Nigeria.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, and Chairman of Senate, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, thanked the Governor, and visitor to the University, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for finding one of the senate members, Dr A. U Offiah, worthy of appointment, as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD), of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) and commended the immediate past CMD, Dr Chuks Kamanu for a successful tenure in office.
The Vice Chancellor, on behalf of Management, and Senate, also congratulated a former Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ogwo E. Ogwo for the grand ceremony to commemorate his anniversary/retirement from long service, which held at the University auditorium and prayed God to continue to grant him more grace and strength in his future endeavors.
Other highlights of the 237th regular senate meeting includes
– The issuance of Certificates of participation to Deans and other Senior academics for completion of the Computer training program organized by the University in line with the E-Senate proceedings, and ICT driven administration of the University
– Unveiling of the new ABSU butter bread produced by the University, which will be available in stores and markets.
