The Vice-Chancellor, Abia State University and Chairman of Senate, Distinguished Professor E. Uche Ikonne, at its 221st Regular Meeting, formally inaugurated the Senate for the 2017/2018 Academic Session.
The Vice-Chancellor charged members of Senate to lead by example and be guided by the code of professional ethics.
Senate commended the Vice-Chancellor, for the introduction of on-line payment of school fees from any part of the country, on-line accommodation for students, sustenance of Security on Campus, election of Deans of Faculty in line with the laws and statutes of the University, regular Senate meeting, improved welfare of staff and students, regular payment of staff salaries, among others.
Senate thanked the Governor and Visitor to the University, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D. for his unprecedented support to the University and pledged its continued loyalty to the State Government and commitment to the development of Teaching, Research and Community Development.
Senate also congratulated the Vice-Chancellor, Professor E. Uche Ikonne, on his choice to deliver the maiden Late Professor Paul Ogbuehi Memorial Lecture and his nomination as the “Best performing Vice-Chancellor, in the South East Geo-Political zone in the area of Staff Development and Welfare” by the Nigerian Political Science Association, South-East Zone.
Highlight of the 221st Regular Meeting of Senate was the administration of Oath of Office on members by the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Evelyn N. Iheukwumere and Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Sam Erugo.
