Prof. Udo Nwokocha is a Nigerian from Abia State, South East Nigeria. He obtained a Bachelor of Library Science (BLS) from Abia State University, a Master of Library Science (MLS) from the University of Ibadan and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Nigeria.

 

 

He began his working life as Corps Librarian with David Folayin Memorial Library, Iludun-Oro, Kwara State 1987-1988. On completion of the service year, Prof. Udo Nwokocha was automatically employed as a Graduate Assistant at Abia State University, having emerged as the best graduating student in the Department of Library and Information Science 1987.

Prof. Udo Nwokocha has served as Head of Departments of Library and Information Science and Mass Communication, Dean of Student Affairs, a two time member of Abia State University Governing Council and presently the University Librarian, Abia State University.

 

SERVICES TO GOVERNMENT, COMMUNITY AND CHURCH:

Prof Udo Nwokocha enjoys rendering service to man and humanity.

  1. He served as Secretary to Bende Local Government (SECLOG) 2004-2006.
  2. President-General, Umuenyere Alayi Development Union 2014-
  3. National Secretary, National Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE) 2013-.
  4. Chairman, Nigerian Library Association (NLA), Abia State Chapter, 2015-

 

For his services, he has received several honours and awards including:

  1. Knight of John Wesley (KJW) by the Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria.
  2. Member, Order of Faithful of God (OFG) by the Arcbishop of Umuahia Archdiocese of Methodist Church Nigeria.
  3. Lay President of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Umuahia, 2015-
  4. Patron of many groups and chieftaincy titles such as Ugwumba of Okwu, Olokoro, Ugochinyere of Awomnuzie, Ihe Mba of Alayi Kingdom and Akumba of Enyere Ukwu.
